Trey Wright
Trey Wright began playing guitar at age 15.  Initially inspired by the blues, Trey was exposed to jazz early in his development by a private instructor.  While studying Sociology at the University of Georgia, Trey furthered his study of jazz improvisation with pianist and composer Steve Dancz. In 1994, along with several members of his jazz improvisation class, he co-founded the Athens/Atlanta based jazz band Squat.  Along with managing Squat and producing four independent CD releases on Namaste records, Trey plays guitar and piano with the group touring throughout the Southeast.   Outside of Squat, Trey performs freelance in jazz duos, trios, quartets, and big bands in the Atlanta and Athens area. In addition to jazz performances, Trey has performed solo acoustic folk guitar compositions in coffee shops, and clubs in Athens and Atlanta as well as the Athfest in Athens, Ga.  His solo performances are an eclectic blend of Americana, jazz, Brazilian, and gospel music. In December of 2002, Trey completed a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies at Georgia State University.  Trey spent the summer of 2003 writing and performing music in Eugene, Oregon for his first solo CD to be recorded in the fall of 2004.
